It’s always refreshing and unbelievable to meet a bride and groom who have known each other since high school. It was even more incredible to meet a couple who met in middle school. Kyra and Bennett, though friends for a while, fell in love, and the rest became history!
My husband and second shooter, Justin, met Kyra and Bennett through a college ministry named SALT. Over time, I also got to meet them and see their personalities come to life in our conversations prior to their wedding day. We learned how much they loved to read, enjoy Legos, laughing, and having fun together. Their love for each other and their love for Jesus was also evident. So, of course, their wedding day was super sweet and very special.
Kyra and Bennett married at Rocky’s Lake Estate in Woodstock, Georgia, one of the most beautiful venues. We arrived an hour or so early to explore and scout locations. We knew that we’d be taking many portraits before the ceremony, so we were looking for spots that offered shade. I was able to find adequate shade for all of my bride and bridesmaids' photos, but Justin wasn’t so lucky. So we thought. A couple of weeks prior, I watched a class on shooting in direct sunlight, and the tips and tricks that I learned flooded my mind as we frantically realized all of our shaded spots were now occupied with décor. By God’s grace and at just the right time, we found the perfect place in direct sunlight to capture the groom and groomsmen, which turned out to be some of my favorite photos from their wedding day. I point this out because it was our first time shooting in direct sunlight, with no shade, for portraits on a wedding day! It became a game-changer for us.
In addition to their beautiful and heartfelt ceremony, another highlight of Kyra and Bennett’s wedding day was their bride-and-groom photos. Kyra shared with me that she and Bennett always feel awkward in front of a camera. But you couldn’t tell that by looking at their portraits. With every prompt given, Kyra and Bennett naturally showed affection and interacted with ease. Their love and joy visually came to life, and it was beautiful to see.
To end the night, Kyra and Bennett’s wedding was filled with love, laughter, s’mores, and so many people freely dancing! We even saw their parents “getting down” on the dance floor! It was one of the most lively receptions we’ve captured, and their send-off was just as special.
