I met Lanisha several years ago, as she was one of my sister’s best friends since becoming college roommates. She often visited during our summer vacation stays at my mother’s house. Lanisha, my sister, Justin, and I, would refer to ourselves as “party central” lol. So we planned one to two trips a year with all of us together, and those were some of the most fun and memorable times. So, being able to capture her love on her wedding day was so special to us.
Lanisha and Sebastien are sole lovers. They played tag with their liking for one another since they were FOURTEEN, sharing their first kiss ten years later! Their own separate journeys brought them to this beautiful place of love, acceptance, and oneness. Their wedding day was a culmination of that.
We started the day off at Lanisha’s and Sebastien’s new apartment. It was a small space, but it was filled with so much love and joy as Lanisha’s bridesmaids celebrated and supported her during the entire getting-ready time. What was even more special was that my sister was one of the bridesmaids! So, getting to capture her alongside Lanisha and the other bridesmaids was a sweet and fun gift.
The groom simultaneously got ready at his parent’s house. Due to time constraints, the groom and groomsmen had to take their portraits in the neighborhood of the home instead of the venue. But by God’s grace, it worked out perfectly! The neighborhood was so scenic and had a lot of greenery and different background options. Justin had plenty to work with!
Rain became a threat to us as we arrived at Miramar Cultural Center and throughout the rest of our time there. Luckily, we were able to capture the bride and bridesmaids portraits outside of the covered areas before it started raining. Lanisha and her ladies were troupers in that they didn’t let a few light rain drops stop them from taking their portraits.
Though the ceremony was supposed to be outdoors in front of a garden, it had to be moved indoors because of the rain. It was a bummer because I was reallyyy looking forward to the outdoor ceremony, but their ceremony was beautiful nonetheless. My favorite part was Sebastien waiting to see Lanisha. As the wedding party was making its way down the aisle, Sebastien was fighting tears and taking deep breaths with the help of his best man. Seeing all of the overwhelming emotions Sebastien had for his bride was so beautiful.
When it came time for the wedding party and bride and groom portraits, we were concerned about how limited our covered area options would be. However, we were able to find many beautiful covered background options because of all that the outside of the venue had to offer.
The rest of the evening was filled with love, laughter, and lots of cultural celebration! It was such a beautiful wedding day, and one that I will always cherish.
